The germ of another Civil War rests within the walls of 210 Woodward Hall, where Grant and Lee, freshman classmates and direct descendants of the famous generals, room together. The Dartmouth freshmen are the best of friends, however, and have been together since their days at St. Albans Academy in Washington, D. C.

"Chuck" Grant's great-grandfather was a second cousin of the Northern commander, while "Van" Lee's great-grandfather was first cousin of the hero of the South. The two freshmen, according to their friends, are far from belligerent, except when the relative merits of the Cleveland Indians and Washington Senators are up for discussion. Grant was a resident of Cleveland before moving to Washington, D. C.

Grant and Lee, along with Daniel Webster '39, are confirmed but untried winter sports enthusiasts.
