Karl Michael's swimmers completed their dual meet season with a 5-5 record. After Carnival the swimming team outswam Cornell 57-38 and Penn 53-42, before losing to Princeton in their last meet 53-42.

Captain Terry Bentley closed out a brilliant career for the Indians with victories against Penn and Princeton in both the individual medley and the 200-yard butterfly. In the Princeton meet he set a new Dartmouth record in the individual medley with a time of 2:08.2. In that same meet Jeff Galper broke the Indians' 440-yard freestyle mark with a time of 4:43.5.

Bentley leaves behind him records in not only the individual medley, but also the 200-yard butterfly and the 200-yard breaststroke, besides being a member of the record-setting 400-yard medley relay team. Over three years, he had 43 firsts, nine seconds, and one lone third. He had not been beaten since 1961 when Jim Griffiths of Princeton turned the trick. In his final dual meet, he outswam Griffiths in a close butterfly race.

In mid-March the Green swimmers competed in the Easterns at New Haven and even though no first was registered, three Dartmouth records went by the boards. Bentley took a second in the butterfly but was clocked in 2:01.8 and then he topped the individual medley mark with a 2:07.5 finish, but was again beaten. Galper set the third record with 19:20.2 in the 1500 meters, good enough for seventh place in the meet.
