Congratulations from the class to Harold D. King of Washington, D. C., who has recently been appointed commissioner of lighthouses of the Department of Commerce. Harold, you will recall, was of our class until May, 1902, when he began his career in the Coast and Geodetic Survey service of Uncle Sam. In this service he continued until 1911, except for the college year of 1904-1905, which he spent at Thayer School and completed his undergraduate work. During his Coast and Geodetic Survey service he worked in every state and territory except Arizona and Porto Rico, but including Alaska and the Philippines. Married in Manila in 1908, the following summer he returned to the States via the Suez Canal and Europe, and in 1911 just subsequent to the reorganization of the Lighthouse Service was transferred to that service. With sixteen years' experience as district superintendent of lighthouses and four and a half years as deputy commissioner, Harold is unquestionably fitted for his rise to the commissioner's post.
This past summer I received a letter from Frank Drown, now of Truckee, Calif., asking if any account was ever published of the 1903 reunion in 1933. Bless his soul, one was sent him addressed Truckee, Calif., but owing to the moves which Frank so frequently makes it probably found final resting-place in the postmaster's wastepaper basket. Frank says he has not seen a Potholesker since June, 1933. If»he had only taken the ALUMNI MAGAZINE he would have seen several mentions of his muchtraveled self and would have visited San Francisco and attended the Dartmouth Club's dinner, where he would have found Frank Wentworth, Herb Follett, and Wynn Matteson. Woe is me and the Secretary's life. Another report was immediately despatched Frank. The address Truckee, Calif., is good until December 1.

The class extends its sincere sympathy to Dr. Arthur P. Noyes, superintendent of the Rhode Island State Hospital for Mental Diseases, on the death of Mrs. Noyes, September 17, 1935, at Howard, R. I. Mary Dwinell Noyes was born in East Calais, Vt., daughter of Levi and Louise (Cannan) Dwinell. She was buried in East Calais.
A letter was received this summer from Herbert McElwain, formerly of Spring-field, Mass., but now of Enfield Center, N. H., expressing an interest in his former classmates. Herb did not finish his course with us but left college because of a business opening. We shall hope to hear more from him and to see him at our class gatherings.
While at camp this tall I wrote to "Babe" Grant, asking him to relieve the strain on the Secretary by writing another letter to his classmates in accordance with the expressed wish of those gathered at "Musa" on August 3. Within a week I received one of the most interesting letters that "Babe" has ever written to the class, telling of his European travels this past summer. Because of restriction of space I can only give you the highlights—but, fellows, just to put one over on Mr. Comstock, "Babe's" letter is all highlights. From month to month we'll release these highlights and in that way you'll get the entire letter. Renew your subscription at once.
