With regard to football, it's difficult to define" the undergraduate attitude at this point. Last season, following the installation of a new coaching staff which fulfilled the expectations of all, enthusiasm was bound to run high, even though everybody was busy telling everybody else that you could not expect a Rose Bowl team the first year. Now the feeling more nearly approaches that "sane optimism" for which Coach Blaik put in a plea last year, although the attitude of one sector might better be described as "sane pessimism." "Cornell may lose every other game on their schedule, but they'll be good when they come here," is a characteristic remark of the fatalists.

The majority are noncommital. They're not expecting unreasonable things but they're satisfied with what they've seen so far down on Memorial Field.
