President Hopkins announced on November 6 the appointment of a special committee of twelve members to consider the matter of health insurance at Dartmouth College and the establishment of a system to make the service of Dick's House more completely a contribution to student welfare. This special board, which was set up at the request of Palaeopitus following some undergraduate agitation, is headed by Dean Robert C. Strong '24, who formerly was liaison officer between the President's Office and Dick's House from the time the infirmary opened until within the last two years. It includes representatives from the undergraduate body, the administration, the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital, the Department of Physical Education, and the Hitchcock Clinic.
The undergraduate members of the committee are Dean R. Gidney '36, of Ridgewood, N. J.; Robert H. Shertz '36, of Philadelphia, Pa.; Gordon P. Bennett '37, of Swampscott, Mass.; and Frederick K. Castle '37, °f Hinsdale, Ill. Other members are Dr. Howard N. Kingsford, medical director of the College; William R. Gray '04, dean of Tuck School and president of the Board of Trustees of the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital; Halsey C. Edgerton '06, treasurer of the College; Max A. Norton '19, bursar of the College; Prof. Robert J. Delehanty, chairman of the Department of Physical Education; and Dr. John P. Bowler 15 and Dr. John F. Gile '16, representing the Hitchcock Clinic.
This special committee will study the feasibility of putting into effect a health insurance plan at Dartmouth, and will report its findings to President Hopkins later in the year. It will extend the scope of its investigation beyond the single question of health insurance, and is expected to make suggestions as to how Dick's House can become even more serviceable to the student body than it is at present.
