Tenure for Three
APRIL 1983

The Dartmouth trustees at their February meeting approved promotions with tenure for three members of the faculty. Beatriz Pastor is now associate professor of Spanish and Portuguese, Carol Fowler associate professor of psychology, and Dean Kropp associate professor of business administration at Tuck School. The Pastor and Fowler promotions raise to 21 the number of tenured women on the faculty of arts and sciences.

Shortly before the trustees' action, Professor Pastor was in the news as the recipient of the most prestigious essay prize in Latin American literature. The award was made by Casa de las Americas, a cultural institution based in Cuba, for her essay, "El Discurso Narrativo de la Conquista: Mitificacion y Emergencia," which deals with the ways in which the realities of the New World changed the perceptions of the Spanish Conquistadores and led to a literature different from that produced in Spain.
