Natt Emerson Dies
December 1935

Natt W. Emerson '00, secretary of his class for 35 years, business manager of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, and president of Dartmouth-at-Moosilauke, died at Dick's House on November 20, following an emergency operation performed two weeks earlier for acute perforation of the bowel.

Mr. Emerson, who was 56 years old on November 15, moved to Hanover with his family two years ago, following his retirement from the advertising firm of Batten, Barton, Durstine and Osborne, of which he was vice-president and manager of the New England office. During the time he lived in Hanover, he willingly accepted important assignments for the College and its associated enterprises. He particularly devoted his enthusiasm and energies to securing funds and making plans for Dartmouth-at-Moosilauke, which he envisioned as the finest skiing center in the country and which he, more than anyone else, brought to its present success. His Hanover days were likewise filled with the business affairs of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, and under his management much was accomplished in increasing both circulation and advertising revenue. His advice and help were sought on numerous administrative, alumni, undergraduate and commu- nity problems, and in giving freely of his time and energy he knew great happiness as a promoter of Dartmouth's welfare.

Before coming to Hanover, Mr. Emerson, his wife and two sons, William '34 and John '38, made their home in West Newton, Mass. He was president of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Boston in 1926, and served two terms of membership on the Alumni Council, from 1919 to 1925, filling the post of president in 1922, 1923 and 1924. Mr. Emerson was also president of the University Club of Boston in 1928.

As an undergraduate, Mr. Emerson was secretary of his class, captain of his class football team, a member of his class baseball team, and the manager of the Dartmouth Literary. He was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, and prepared for Dartmouth at Andover Academy.

Funeral services for Mr. Emerson were held at Candia, N. H., his boyhood home, on November 23. The simple and intimate services were attended by members of the family, President Hopkins, Clarence G. McDavitt 'OO, Charles A. Proctor '00, and Lemuel G. Hodgkins 'OO, his undergraduate roommates; and several classmates of 1900.
