The Southern California Alumni Association has had a busy year. The Fall season started with a dinner dance at the Biltmore Hotel. Thirty couples attended. Ashton Castle '24, assistant manager of The Biltmore, superintended the affair and is still receiving congratulations for his good work. It was a great party.
Then came the football luncheon meetings with the alumni associations of Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Cornell. The attendance reached its peak at the Yale game when forty anxious grads gathered to hear the play by play reports.
About thirty alumni met at the Mayflower Hotel to observe Dartmouth Night. A telegram pledging cooperation was sent to President Hopkins. After a short meeting, entirely in keeping with the spirit of the event, the men settled down to the usual post-meeting pastimes.
Recently President Walter Douglas '3l, took his attendance committee into a huddle to discuss methods of increasing the attendance at the weekly luncheons. Their recommendations, put into effect, have increased the number of men attending to the pre-depression level. The meetings are now being held at the Mayflower Hotel, 535 South Grand Avenue. Will all those alumni lucky enough to travel to California this winter make a note of the new address and come in to see us?
The Freshman committee has been active rounding up likely prospects for the class of '39. The committee has been reorganized, more men have been added and the scope of their work enlarged; briefly, their task is to contact the major high schools and discuss Dartmouth with those boys planning to attend eastern colleges. In the Spring, the committee is planning to have a meeting for the prospects and their fathers. The latest Dartmouth news reels and the composite film will be shown.
The following men have been active on this committee: David E. Bradley '03, Chairman; Ray Bennett 'l3, James Bennett '23, Walter Douglas '3l, Robert Sands '33, Bill Palmer '3l, Jack Elliott '32, Bud Bradley '34-
We are glad to welcome into the Southern California Alumni Association the following 1934 graduates who have decided to make Los Angeles their home: Clarence S. Kampff, David S. Redington, Stewart Brown, Charles D. Steffey, David E. Bradley, Jr.
