COOPERATION FROM GOVERNMENT
June 1935

At a conference held with M. A. Mattoon, New Hampshire National Forest Supervisor, Dan Hatch, with John McLane '07 and Dr. Proctor '00, worked out a plan for a harmonious development of this whole area as the government owns the land entirely surrounding Dartmouth's present and prospective holdings. This should mean comprehensive and beautiful ski trails opening up all sides of the Mountain.

It is also hoped that a telephone to the Ravine Camp can be installed and a good tote road built into camp from the C.C.C. road to North Woodstock. Dr. Syvertsen '18 and Dick Goddard '21 are working on the new plans aided by Dean Neidliner 23 and Professor Ames.

Too much cannot be said of the hard work and fine co-operation afforded Dan Hatch by his operating committee composed of John McLane and Johnny Carleton '22 of Manchester, and Messrs. Proctor, Syvertsen, Ames, and Goodard of Hanover. Double the number of people can be cared for next winter by our wonderful host and hostess at Ravine Camp, Fordy and Peggy Sayre. It is grand news for the whole Dartmouth-out-of-doors family, and the Outing Club has made another important contribution to the prestige of the College in acquiring and developing such a mountain as Moosilauke, made possible by the initial gift of Ned an Charlie Woodworth who gave the Summit House and the land surrounding it.

We owe a great deal to the first contributors who helped buy over 500 acres for Hell's Highway and made possible the renovations to the old logging camp. After two winters of overwhelming use it is still a pretty comfortable place. Dan Hatch reports excellent returns from the "Mountain Membership" plan with over 150 responses so that when the land is available, we should able to add very materially to our holdings.
