The Publications Committee of the College announces the appearance of a new book of Dartmouth songs. It may be secured at $1 per copy by addressing the Bursar's Office or one of the bookstores in Hanover.
This is the fifth edition of the book and is the first to be published by the College, the others having been published by Edwin O. Grover '94 and Harry R. Wellman 'O7. Both Mr. Grover and Mr. Wellman have given the College their rights in the book in the Dartmouth songs which they have written or controlled. In addition deeds of gift have been received from Willard B. Segur '92, Robert C. Hopkins 'l4, Moses C. Ewing 'l3, and Walter H. Golde 'lO. In all cases the donors have deeded to the College their full rights in all Dartmouth songs of which they were either authors or composers.
After a thorough survey by officers of the College, with the assistance of some particularly interested alumni, it was decided to give a professional music publisher exclusive control over public use of Dartmouth songs. Thornton W. Allen Company, 74 Riverside Drive, New York City, has been awarded a ten-year contract for this work. It is understood that Dartmouth songs may be used freely for Dartmouth meetings and non-commercial use. Any public use of Dartmouth music, such as in radio broadcasting, movie reproduction, or band and orchestra numbers, must be checked with the Allen Company to arrange for the necessary permission. Dartmouth music is fully protected by copyright.
The new song book consisting of 80 pages includes five new songs that have not appeared in previous editions. They are: "Dartmouth Undying," "The Wind Is on the Mountain," "Dartmouth Challenge Song," "Wearers of the Green," and "Our Leige Lady, Dartmouth." A total of 29 songs appears in the book.
