It may be the fault of the postman, but the Secretary has received no letters from '88 men since his return from Maine on September 23.
Speaking of the postman, rumor has it that "for the good of the party" on November 3 Berton Williams has been invited to give up his long and efficient service as postmaster at Ayer. So far as we know, the new appointee is the only one to rejoice.
In the October issue we were obliged to report that Doc Lougee took his own medicine in July and August. We were surprised on our return home to find that our Doc was in the Baker Memorial Hospital. From what the Secretary was able to gather at the hospital a few days ago, his visit of some three or four weeks was just to give the doctors and nurses the needed relaxation after a hard summer on duty. They all seemed pleased to have him there. He returned to Maiden yesterday, October 8.
