Agreement between the Aegis and the College administration that the Dartmouth year-book be published under College supervision and liability was announced by Dean Lloyd K. Neidlinger shortly after the college year opened. At the request of the 1936 and 1937 boards of the Aegis, steps were taken last spring toward the newly created organization, which calls for a graduate director, the usual undergraduate staff, and full financial responsibility on the part of the College.
Difficulties encountered by the Dartmouth annual in recent years, among them financial risk to the undergraduate officers and inadequacies in personnel, are directly responsible for the new arrangement, which is expected to provide a more efficient and permanent organization to publish and manage the year-book. On the basis that the Aegis is essential to the preservation of a proper record of each college year, the College administration has been willing to provide the necessary permanent direction and to remove the possibility of any personal loss in connection with the financial operations.
President Hopkins has named Charles E. Widmayer '30, director of the News Service, as graduate manager of the Aegis, and the director in turn has appointed an undergraduate staff headed by Herbert E. Bottjer '37, of East Rockaway, N. Y., editor-in-chief; Tudor A. Wall '37, of Riverside, Calif., managing editor; Gilbert R. Reynolds '37, of Brookline, Mass., business manager; and John F. Ward '37, of Clinton, lowa, advertising manager.
Although not responsible for any debts or deficit incurred by the Aegis, officers of the book will share any profits among themselves, except such sum as may be used to build up a permanent fund from year to year. The graduate director will be in charge of all contracts, will authorize all financial dealings, and will supervise the planning of the book, the competitions, and the subscription and advertising campaigns.
