I learned further in regard to the tragic death of Barrows and his wife, that he had been quite well and strong, having painted his house only a few months previously. The fire was not discovered for probably two hours after the explosion of the kitchen stove, which undoubtedly caused it.

SEEN AT BOSTON DINNER

I went to the alumni dinner in Boston, and it was a very pleasant occasion, as usual. Fred Woods, fully recovered, was on hand, and looked as ruddy and well as ever. John F. McDonald and Will Mann also attended. Then there were Gregory, Cate, and Ralph Bartlett at our table. Ben Ames Williams was in fine form. It seemed to be the impression that he was better than when he gave us a talk a few years ago. Lewis Perry was quite interesting also. President Hopkins made a splendid speech as usual, full of meat, almost too much for one meal.
