Figures on the geographic distribution of freshmen for the past 15 years (printed on the opposite page) disclose that Massachusetts has sent the greatest number of students to Dartmouth during that period, having a margin of more than 300 over New York. This lead was run up with the Classes of 1925 through 1933, however, the two states being practically even for the last six entering classes. Over this 15-year span, New Jersey holds third honors, followed by Illinois, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Michigan, Minnesota, Maine, Wisconsin, District of Columbia, and California. Mississippi and New Mexico, with but a single representative each during the past 15 years, bring up the rear.
The total number of freshmen who have matriculated with the Class of 1925 on is 9,591, making an average entering class of 639. During the first five years of the !5-year period, the freshman class averaged 612 men; during the next five years the average grew to 633, which is roughly the average for the entire period; and during the last five years the average entering class has been 673 men.
