The Alumni Records Office says there's some trouble locating George Geran, believed to be now residing in New York. Now if there were some hockey games on at this season, we'd know where to look. .... Writing on the letterhead of Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation, Beverly Hills, Calif., Gene Markey tells Ernie Earley in a letter we swiped: "You haveno idea how monstrously hard I haveto work out here. And it's going to beworse. I am signing a new contract as aproducer, which means twice the workand twice the worry. And my behind willprobably get twice as wide, from sitting onit twice as much! Joan and I are sailingfor England, with our entire brood, aboutthe first of May, each of us to do a picturefor Gaumont-British. My new job at Twen-tieth Century-Fox starts the day I get back.
"I saw Phil Boynton out here on a flyingbusiness trip—and I bumped into DukeShoup a couple of times, but maybe hedoesn't like motion picture people. AndMarty Straus sent roses to my wife whenour last child arrived. Outside of that Ihaven't seen anyone in our class since Istaggered up to Hanover for the TenthReunion. I wish I could make it this June, but I'll be in England."
A 1 Sibbemsen, Washington, Neb. postcards thusly: "I am the moderator ofschool district 41, Washington County,Neb —what do you think of that, eh? Wifeand children same as last reported. Theold man retains his youth, with slight indications of being in a family way." .... Curt Tripp, New Bedford medical man, writes that he'll meet your Secretary in Hanover at Commencement this June. Any other Eighteeners going to be on hand to join us? Bill Bemis certainly should be on deck for the meeting of the Alumni Council at that time. He ran out of the sessions in New York last fall, pleading a case in the Supreme Court or something. How about rounding up some of the boys out that way, Bill, if this issue gets to press in time to make the trek Hanoverwards before Commencement?
Tom Proctor sends in a new address. It's now 43a Locust St., Huntsville, Ala. And Edward M. Ross may now be located at 46 Hampton Place, Brooklyn, N. Y Understand that C. F. (Chuck) Palmer, big building man of Atlanta, is going to take a month or two trip through Europe this summer Those of you who have been intending to crash through on the Alumni Fund better do so promptly, or the record of the old class won't be any too hot George Kapff, Jamaica Plain, Mass., is running a big European cruise. .... Ought there be another issue of "The Roar" this fall? Can't have one without two things: (1) everybody paying up current dues to Ernie Earley, tenacious treasurer, 16 Court St., Brooklyn, N. Y., and (2) somebody sending in some news items that could be published in said contemplated issue.
By this time most of you have become familiar, no doubt, with the published report of the Committee for the Survey of Social Life in Dartmouth College, which suggests the ultimate dissolution of national affiliations of Dartmouth fraternities. As we understand it, the opinion of the alumni is to be solicited on this subject, and your Secretary will be delighted to serve as a sort of unofficial clearing house for the class of Eighteen on this subject. Surely, all of us have some thoughts on this subject; why not drop me a line, and at the same time include some gossip of a general nature? .... While we're dealing in the first person—in the absence of more interesting news notes, may it be chronicled that your Secretary is to put on cap and gown to represent the College at the centennial of Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga., the last of May—Wesleyan is a girls' college, mind you!
And so, this column bids you adieu until fall. It is hoped, and expected, that a new class secretary will be on the job before then, and that the news will be fresher and presented more entertainingly. However, the present incumbent thanks the scores of you who have crashed through with occasional letters; without your aid the column during the past year would have been sorry indeed. Happy summer vacation!
Secretary, 811 Norris Bldg., Atlanta, Ga.
