SHERMAN R. MOULTON of Burlington '98, associate justice of the Vermont Supreme Court, was elected president of the Vermont Alumni Association of Dartmouth College at the meeting held in the National Life Insurance Company banquet hall, Montpelier, on November 4.
Other officers elected are: First vice president, Fred Harris '11 of Brattleboro, "father" of the Dartmouth Outing Club; second vice president, Lawrence Leavitt '25, headmaster of Vermont Academy, Saxtons River; treasurer, Frederic P. Lowe '15 of Montpelier, treasurer of the Montpelier Savings Bank and Trust Company; Secretary, Lester E. Richwagen '23 of Barre, assistant editor of the Barre Daily Times.
The Dartmouth Glee Club, which gave a concert in Montpelier City Hall following the dinner, was present in a body, guests of the alumni and rendered several Dartmouth songs. Dean Lloyd K. Neidlinger '23, classmate of the arrangements committee chairman, George R. Mclvee of Montpelier and the new secretary, was the speaker. "Progress of Dartmouth" was the subject of Dean Neidlinger's talk and it was what the alumni wished most to hear.
Dartmouth was co-educational for the occasion, about 150 persons being present.
In the role of classes called by Chairman McK.ee, the dean of alumni present was Fred A. Howland of Montpelier, chairman of the board of directors of the National Life Insurance Company and a former trustee of Dartmouth College, who responded for the class of 1887.
On motion of Retiring Secretary A. B. Lane of Barre, the alumni renewed their pledge of loyalty to Dartmouth and sent felicitations to the older Dartmouth men unable to attend the dinner.
Officers took under consideration a proposal by Chairman McKee that a particular day of the week and definite locations be planned when Dartmouth men might lunch together informally.
Resignations of A. B. Lane as secretary and George J. Seager of Barre as treasurer, after many years of faithful service were accepted with regret by the alumni.
The Dartmouth spirit runs strong in the
family of Adolph B. Lane of Barre, Vt class of 1901. Mr. Lane has just completed 18 years of service as secretary of the Vermont Alumni Association of Dartmouth College. His three sons are Dartmouth graduates: Wendell, class of 1938, is associated with his father in the construction business; Gordon, class of 1931, is with the Vermont Highway department at Montpelier, and Harold, class of 1932, is back at his alma mater as astronomy instructor.
