THE NEW Council on Student Organizations, named by President Hopkins just before he left Hanover for the first part of his year's leave of absence, is chairmaned by Prof. George L. Frost '21 of the English department. As his associates on the controlling body approved by the Board of Trustees last spring he has three other staff members and three undergraduates.
Prof. Leslie F. Murch, chairman of the special committee which last year brought in a report on student organizations, is serving an interim term of one semester, at the end of which he will be succeeded by Prof. Martin L. Lindahl. The two appointees by the President are Albert I. Dickerson '30, executive assistant to the President, and Robert D. Funkhouser '27, assistant bursar, while the three undergraduate members appointed by the President after consultation with Palaeopitus are William W. Remington '39 of Ridgewood, N. J.; Robert B. Whitcomb '39 of Brockton, Mass.; and Richard F. Babcock '40 of Evanston, Ill.
The new Council on Student Organizations has oversight of practically all non-athletic organizations except the Dartmouth Outing Club and the publications. Detailed supervision of this large number of activities will be delegated to faculty advisers and other directors. As its executive officers the Council has Prof. Nathaniel G. Burleigh '11 for its Graduate Manager and Robert E. Lang '38 for its Assistant Graduate Manager.
