THE ACTIVITIES of the newly formed Political Action Group were brought to Hanover's attention early in October through the sponsoring of a public lecture on New Hampshire's proposed income tax amendment by Raymond B. Stevens, chairman of the United States Tariff Commission and former Congressman from New Hampshire. The PAG is a community group, including a large number of Dartmouth faculty members, which was organized last spring to promote individual participation in municipal, state and national politics.

PAG hopes to act as a secretariat to collect information from all members of the faculty on pending legislation and other events with which its purpose is directly concerned, to issue occasional bulletins to members of the group, and to aid generally in the individual's participation in politics. In its initial announcement last spring it gave as its purpose: "To take political action which may further economic justice, maintain civil liberties, and preserve peace; to help preserve and extend liberal social policies. As a secondary purpose we propose insofar as we can to further the political alertness and intelligence of Dartmouth men by measures such as encouraging the Dartmouth-in- Politics movement; contributing to TheDartmouth discussions of current political and social questions; aiding existing organizations in the selection of visiting lecturers."
