THE CHILD'S WORLD IN STORYSERMONS
November 1938 Roy B. Chamberlin

By Howard J. Chidley, D.D.'06. Fleming H. Revell Company, NewYork, 1938. pp. 159. $1.50.

Dr. Chidley, Dartmouth '06, has found time, out of his crowded days as a successful pastor of a large and thriving suburban church (Winchester, Mass., Congregational), to publish five volumes of story sermons delivered to his junior congregation. This latest collection, one talk for each Sunday of the year with an extra for good measure, is drawn primarily not from the Bible, but from all sorts of experiences around the world and over the centuries. Seldom exceeding a five-minute limit, they are vivid, pungent, stimulating for young and old alike, revealing a broad and definitely religious spirit. His unusual success in this difficult and specialized form of preaching is due, probably, to his love of children, to his profound understanding of the child mind, and to his genius of presenting the fundamentals of the religious life so simply as to appear universalas they actually are.
