Cowley Inauguration

PRESIDENT HOPKINS represented Dartmouth at the inauguration of Dr. William Harold Cowley '24 as President of Hamilton College on October 29 and was also among the speakers at the luncheon which followed the academic ceremonies. Other speakers were Alexander Woollcott, speaking for Hamilton College alumni; Elihu Root Jr. for the Board of Trustees; Dr. Thomas A. Mangan for the Board of Regents; Dr. Dixon R. Fox of Union College; and Dr. Walter A. Jessup of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

President Cowley is the eighth Dartmouth man now heading an institution of higher learning. The others, besides President Hopkins, are Harry W. Chase '04, chancellor of New York University; Edmund E. Day '05, president of Cornell University; Louis B. Hopkins 'OB, president of Wabash College; Ralph C. Jenkins '14, president of Danbury State Teachers College; Joseph H. Brewer '20, president of Olivet College; and Thomas N. Barrows '22, president of Lawrence College.
