WHEN YOUR correspondent was a harrassed night editor for THE DARTMOUTH he could always count on the star reporter, Os Skinner, for one more story to fill the sheet, and now, ten years later, Os still comes to the rescue with his latest blast from the offices of Tucker Anthony, Bulletin No. 2, Vol. 3 of the DOCNY, outlining the January program and quoting statistics on our membership.
It seems that we boast about 70 members paid up, and while we are proud of that figure, it being the highest in our three-year history, more than fifty per cent of the membership has been out of college over 10 years. While we old bucks think we are pretty peppery and have had a lot of fun together, we are extremely anxious to get the interest and support of the younger element, not only because they can probably ski circles around us and thereby maintain the high reputation of the College, but because the development of the organization must sooner or later directly hinge on their active support. The last five classes out of Hanover have only 13 members in the Club and it seems a shame that there are not several times that number. Soo-o-o-o-o, step up boys and let us know if you are in town. It only costs a dollar and if you buy any equipment your discounts will get that back in no time at all.
There having been no snow within spitting distance of New York the local season has developed nothing more interesting than a lot of talk about good places to go and some involved plans to wangle the boss out of both Saturday and Monday over Washington's Birthday weekend. Good skiing out of New York being largely a "long weekend" proposition, that is a matter of vital importance.
Your correspondent spent New Year's in Hanover and enjoyed two days of excellent snow on Oak Hill, seeing Larry Lougee '29, Dick Rocker '33 and M. A. Cartwright '37 as well as Marge and Elly Cavanagh '29 at various times over the weekend. He was also impressed by the generous hospitality of Ford and Peggy Sayre; the superlative comfort of the Oak Hill tramway and the excellence of the facilities in and around Hanover, all of which drove home even more firmly the long-held conviction that, taken all around the board, winter or summer, Hanover is just about the swellest weekend spot that can be found.
