Alan D. Goss '41 of Pasadena, Calif., was killed in an automobile accident on December 23 at St. Moritz, Switzerland, where he was spending the Christmas holidays with his family. His mother, Mrs. Joseph M. Goss, and an older brother were seriously injured and were taken to the American Hospital in Neuilly, France.

Young Goss, who was 19, had sailed on the Queen Mary on December 15 to make a flying visit to his mother, brother and sister in St. Moritz during the 18-day college recess. During his freshman year he had been engaged in soccer, track and the glee club. He prepared for college at Chateau de Changins in Lyons, Switzerland, and at Thacher School, where he was an outstanding member of his class.

Merrill entered Dartmouth from Pasadena Junior College, and during his juniorand senior years played end on the varsityfootball team-. He is a member of Psi TJpsilon fraternity and of Casque and Gauntlet senior society.
