Dr. Byron E. Eldred 'g6, physicist and inventor, announced late in January a new method of casting metals, through use of latent heat, which is expected to become of great importance industrially. In making his announcement upon his election to the presidency of the Engineers Club of New York, he said that besides providing a process for making better castings, his discovery has made possible the production of "heavy copper," a casting with a density greater than the previously accepted absolute density for pure copper.
Dr. Eldred has been working upon his new process for more than five years. It consists of the application of latent heat to molten metal from the inside, instead of applying heat from the outside as formerly- Dr. Eldred is one of the few remaining scientists engaged in independent research of the type done by the late Thomas A. Edison.
