The absorption of the Robert Fletcher Fund of The Thayer School into the Dartmouth College Alumni Fund will go into effect with the 1938 Alumni Fund campaign which is now in preparation, according to an announcement by Sigurd S. Larmon 'l4 of New York, chairman of the Alumni Fund Committee of the Alumni Council. The recommendation of the consolidation of the two funds was submitted by the Alumni Fund Committee to the Alumni Council at its last meeting and was acted upon favorably by the Council. It had previously received the approval of the Overseers of the Thayer School and of the Thayer Society of Engineers which had sponsored the Fletcher Fund since its establishment in 1925.

It had become increasingly evident year by year, Mr. Larmon reported, that the solicitation of those members of the alumni body who were also alumni of the Thayer School from two different quarters at the same time was unfortunate. The Thayer School had been die only one of the three associated schools conducting a regular annual fund solicitation of its own. Instances of minor friction created by the double solicitation had come to attention with increasing frequency. On the other hand, there was no question but that the moneys which the Fletcher Fund had provided to the Thayer School were indispensable to it.

A careful study of the situation was undertaken during last summer and fall by the executive secretaries of the two funds, Albert I. Dickerson '3O, of the Alumni Fund Committee, and William P. Kimball '2B, of the Fletcher Fund. This study included an analysis of the records of contributions of Thayer School men to the Alumni Fund and to the Fletcher Fund respectively. It was discovered that the proportion of the total contributions of Thayer School men to the two funds remained approximately the same over the period of years and it appeared that this proportion could be used as the basis for a formula whereby, should a consolidation of the two funds be effected, an equitable appropriation back to the Thayer School of a percentage of the total gifts of Thayer School Alumni could be made.

This proposal was presented in detail to the Alumni Council and received the Council's warm approval as a solution for a problem which had troubled many members of the Council. In accordance with the Council vote, the exact percentage of the total gift from Thayer School alumni which will be appropriated back to the Thayer School will be determined at the close of the campaign by the Alumni Fund Committee in consultation with officers of the Thayer School.

According to the plan, the organization of the Fletcher Fund will be suspended this year after the mailing of a communication to Thayer School Alumni urging that they contribute as generously as possible to the Alumni Fund, in the interests both of the College and of The Thayer School.
