Mrs. Francis G. Gale (Miss Olivia Sola Laberer) died at her home in Waterville, Quebec, March 6, 1938. She was a loyal member of the '76 group, keeping up correspondence with members of the group and attending reunions in Hanover till Gale's death in 1928. She had planned to be present at the "60th", but was prevented by family sickness. Surviving are a son and grandchildren.
Hill writes, "I have met a colleague inWinter Park who is well acquainted withMorrill; he reports him as in good health,happy and cheerful always."
The Secretary has been furnished a highly entertaining contemporary newspaper report of the Dartmouth Commencement in 1866;— a report extending to a column in fine print. "PresidentSmith in his Oxford cap and gown, a vastimprovement on the antiquated stovepipe and robe of President Lord, lookedevery inch a scholar." Among the invited guests were Gen. W. T. Sherman, Chief Justice Salmon P. Chase, Dr. McCosh, Queen's College, Belfast, Ireland, and a number of others prominent at the time. It may be added that the report was furnished by the only survivor of the class of '66, Henry Appleton Kendall of Somerville, Mass.
