At the annual spring meeting of the Board of Trustees on April as, 11 new men were appointed to the Dartmouth faculty for 1938-39 and 15 members of the faculty were promoted to the rank of professor or assistant professor. Seven members of recent classes were awarded the bachelor's degree at the same meeting.

Faculty additions for the coming year include two assistant professors and nine instructors. They are Norman H. Hinton as Assistant Professor of Political Science; Paul Sample '2O as Artist in Residence, with the rank of Assistant Professor; Roy P. Forster as instructor in Biology (Zoology); Richard G. Chase '3B as instructor in Chemistry; Gilbert Small Jr. '3B as instructor in Chemistry; Donald B. King '35 as instructor in the Classics; Joel W. Egerer as instructor in English; Stuart P. Atkins as instructor in German; Edward B. Meservey '3B as assistant in Physics; Eric W. Vaughn '3B as assistant in Physics; and Carl D. England as instructor in Public Speaking.

Promotion to full professorships was voted by the Trustees to the following: Hugh S. Morrison '26, from Assistant Professor to Professor of Art; Harry F. R. Shaw, from Assistant Professor to Professor °f Economics; Merle C. Cowden, from Assistant Professor to Professor of German; chard H. Goddard '2O, from Assistant Professor to Professor of Astronomy; Francois Denoeu, from Assistant Professor to Professor of French; Ramon Guthrie, from Assistant Professor to Professor of French; and Robert A. McKennan '25, from Assistant Professor to Professor of Sociology.

Other promotions were voted as follows: Arthur E. Jensen, from Instructor to Assistant Professor of English; Herbert R. Sensenig '2B, from Instructor to Assistant Professor of German; Joseph G. Pollard '23, from Instructor to Assistant Professor of Physical Education; Robert K. Carr '29, from Instructor to Assistant Professor of Political Science; Elmer E. Smead, from Instructor to Assistant Professor of Political Science; Henry S. Odbert '3O, from Instructor to Assistant Professor of Psychology; George E. Diller, from Instructor to Assistant Professor of French; and Francis E. Merrill '26, from Instructor to Assistant Professor of Sociology.

The Bachelor of Arts degree, as with the Class of 1936, was voted to Seth Thomas Jr. and Ludwig C. Zuber. The degree, as with the Class of 1937, was voted to William M. Breitinger Jr., Milton S. Goldberg, Arthur G. Sprague Jr., David F. M. Todd, and Everett E. White.
