Navy Gets Sunk
November 1939

The Big Green sailors came down from the hills on October 14 to beat the Navy at its own game, in its own boats, on its own water. The score: Dartmouth 451/2; Navy 371/2- Each was represented by three crews, sailing in Navy's speedy 14-foot International Dinghies. An unusually heavy wind capsized three boats, two of which were manned by Middies.

Undaunted by their first major setback, the Navy held a war council to decide upon the best means of counter-attack. Rumor has it they plan to strike at Dartmouth's own specialty by sending a ski team to Hanover.

Dartmouth was gratified by the discovery of two new skippers in Jake Nunnemacher '42 and Warner Wilcox '43. The former took two firsts and the latter one, in the series of four races. Don Frothingham '42, Jim Carpenter '4O and Emil Mosbacher '43 also skippered for the Green.
