Wins Mural Commission

PAUL SAMPLE '2O, Artist in Residence at the College, has been commissioned by the fine arts division of the Treasury Department to paint a mural in the Westerly, R. 1., post office. He was chosen from a field of 1,740 artists who anonymously submitted small scale drawings for a mural depicting American life.

Mr. Sample will probably start work on the mural project late this winter, devoting about six months to the task. He has already painted one set of murals for the post office at Redondo Beach, California, and as one of America's foremost artists has had his oils and watercolors hung in the leading galleries of the country. Some of his works have recently been acquired by the Addison Gallery of Phillips Andover Academy, by Williams College, and by the Brooklyn Museum.
