FORENSIC UNION TEAM UNDERTAKES 20-DEBATE TOUR DURING APRIL

A TWENTY-DEBATE trip, beginning April 3 and ending April 24, will wind up the year for the varsity debate team. Appearing in contests on the trip, which uses up spring vacation and a two-week period afterwards, will be Lou Oberdorfer '39, William S. Green '39, Jack Preiss '4O, John Willetts '4O, and Clif Stratton '4l.

Oberdorfer, who lives in Birmingham, Ala., is president of the Forensic Union, student sponsors of debate at Dartmouth, and last year won the Class of 1866 oratorical award. Green won the Lockwood Prize for the best debating performance in 1938 and lives in Manchester, N. H.

Willetts, a resident of Milwaukee, Wis., is manager of the Speakers' Bureau and won the title "Dixie Champion Debater" at the Rock Hill, S. C., tournament in 1937. Preiss, who lives in Hackensack, N. J., is a member of Junto. Stratton, "Dixie Champion Debater" of 1938, hails from Topeka, Kansas. Prof. John V. Neale, varsity debate coach, will accompany the team on the trip.

The schedule for the spring trip follows: April 3—Western Reserve University, Cleveland, over WGAR, 3.30-4; April 4 University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and Wayne University, Detroit; April 5—Michigan State College, East Lansing; April 7 De Paul University, Chicago; April 10— University of Wisconsin, Madison, over WHA, 4.30-5.30; April 11—University of lowa, lowa City; April 12—lowa State College, Ames; April 13—Drake University, Des Moines; April 14—William Jewell College, Liberty, Mo.; April 16—William Jewell College, over WDAF, 11-11.30 p.m.; April 17—University of Kansas, Lawrence; April 18—University of Wichita, Wichita, Kan., and Kansas State College, Manhattan; April 19—Wentworth Military Academy, Lexington, Mo.; April 20—University of Missouri, Columbia, and Washington University, St. Louis; April 21—Monmouth College, Monmouth, 111.; April 24—Northwestern University, Evanston, and University of Notre Dame, South Bend.

This trip rounds out one of the heaviest schedules the Forensic Union has carried for several years, a total of 38 colleges having been encountered in 42 debates. In addition to the men making the western trip, the following have appeared in debates: Ralph Holben '39, Hanover; Loren Wood '39, Bound Brook, N.
