Frank Weeks reports that he and Bob Drake staged the first "Semi-Annual, District of Northern Illinois, Dartmouth Classof 1929 Dinner" on March 30:

Consulting the Chicago Directory, Bob found 36 Twenty-niners (If there are more out here, we didn't know their whereabouts), whom we contacted. Twelve put in their appearance, and we had a dandy pre-reunion reunion—the first of its kind for our class in this territory. It's not to be the last, either, as we.already plan another for October and hope to really make something out of it in the years to come.

Below are thumbnail sketches of those who attended:

Bob Drake: Practices law in Chicago; married; has two daughters who are beautiful blondes; lives in Glencoe; plans to go to the 10th.

Carl Spaeth: Practices law and teaches same at Northwestern University; married, with two children; plans to attend the 10th.

R. A. Benjamin: Benjamin Electric Co.; married; one son; another suburbanite from Glencoe; plans to make the 10th.

Note: Consensus of several who attended 5th was that if 10th is as good as 5th, it will be a WOW.

Lew Clarke: Practices law in Waukegan; married; one son; a moustache now adorns his upper lip; 60% chance for Reunion; won honors as having come greatest distance for Dinner, and having the distinction of a Dartmouth father '85, and Dartmouth grandfather '42. Banker in Waukegan while studying law at Kent.

Seth Jewell: With Commonwealth Edison Co. in the Advertising Dept.; married; previously with U. S. Gypsum Co. and Rust Cotton Picker Co. Brought Dartmouth Green Book to Dinner, causing much hilarity over puerile appearance of some of us in the old days.

Stan Friedberg: Practices medicine; unmarried; hopeful of 10th. Ken Page: Was a banker, but now sells Chevrolets; still single.

John Clements: Marsh & McLennan, insurance; married; two sons; commutes from Winnetka.

Earl Fyler: Industrialist with Carnegie-Illinois Steel Co.; married.

Ayres Boal: Real estate tycoon; married; two children; taught at mission in Labrador with Grenfell Expedition directly after Dartmouth; a public-spirited resident of Winnetka.

John Brown Cook: Reliable Electric Co.; still an eligible bachelor; proved to all those at Dinner that the hand is quicker than the eye by turning half-dollars into quarters and vice versa; practices intensely the art of prestidigitation and is a past master therein: hopeful of 10th.

Frank Weeks: With Commonwealth Edison Co. in the Engineering Dept.; Studied at Mass. Inst, of Technology after Dartmouth, teaches electrical engineering as avocation; married; two children, commutes from Highland Park.

Best of luck for a BIG TENTH.

This paragraph is dedicated to a real traveler—Joe Walsh. There are men in the class noted for their wanderings—such as Bob Monahan (hero of those to-be-written thrillers, "Bob Monahan in the White Mountains," "Bob Monahan on the Trail," etc.), Gerry Updyke, now in the Philippines, Larry Worth, the Alaskan explorer, and others. Perhaps they see more new scenery than Joe, but get nowhere near the same annual mileage. He journeys 51,000 miles a year just to get to work and home again—170 miles each day. You guessed it. He lives in Poughkeepsie and commutes to New York City while working for the government. In our next issue we hope to publish an interview with the intrepid Walsh himself, explaining in detail his methods for defeating fate in the compilation of this amazing record. Joe says that despite statistics he has been at home long enough to compile a family consisting of a gal baby born August 15, 1938, hight Evelyn Des Places Walsh. The good wife and mother is Mrs. Alice Haynes Walsh, Skidmore '28. Joe also raises Great Danes at a fast pace, running 16 to a litter. The other papa in the house is named peer Gynt.

Bronson Purdy has joined the ranks of the gainfully unemployed. He is selling insurance. A more detailed report will be given on Bronson in the next issue.

Bill Morgan, still in the sales department of the International Paper Company, is anxious for more reactions to his Class Fund plan. This should especially interest gents like Fryberger, who, we learn, has adopted twin boys in Duluth and who will some day need a college education. The Fund has now reached the stage of having a bank account drawing interest. Voluntary contributions from '29ers are increasing the Fund. Ed Chinlund, the well-known certified public accountant, is active manager of the Fund.

Jack Moxon says that in his recent letter for the MAGAZINE he left out the birth date of his new boy, which is January 2, 1939 Jack's illustrious wife is, believe it or not, a trustee of Rutgers University. Jack and Mike Sherman are both connected with the Guaranty Trust Company, at its mam office at 140 Broadway.

Fred Armstrong is with the legal department of American Lumberman's Mutual Casualty Company of Illinois, with offices at 342 Madison Ave.

Walter Wilson is the New York manager of Hope's Windows, Inc., with headquarters at No. 101 Park Ave.

Phil Hoffman has recently opened his own law office at 535 5th Ave., and is actively practicing law in partnership with two other lawyers under the firm name of Goodell, Hoffman, & Spark.

Bill Dodge is associated with the DailyNews as a chemist doing laboratory research work-the Class Twins are fine.

Herb Fish is in the employ of Shell Oil Company, with offices at Rockefeller Center. When not busy coordinating the activities of the corporate subdivisions of the Oil Company, two growing children occupy the balance of his time.

Pete Lundgren, the Twentieth Century-Fox executive, has built a home in Maywood, N. J.

Bill Williamson is practicing law at 220 Broadway with a firm specializing in insurance law. He lives at Jackson Heights.

Les Townsend is a practicing physician at Roselle Park, N. J. Fred Breithut is manager of the Newark agency of the Home Life Insurance Co. of New York. John Quebman is manager of the Attleboro Refining Company, with headquarters at Newark, N. J. Cliff Purse and NickNickerson are associated with the Chemical Bank and Trust Company.

Frank Middleton is employed by the Manufacturers Trust Company, with offices in the Empire State Building. RayHedger is at present living in Garden City, L. 1., and is with the incorporating division of the Corporation Trust Company, at 120 Broadway. Bud Foulks spent the week-end of Winter Carnival at Hanover, and reports that the skiing and the snow sculpture were never better.

Will Torbert is teaching English in the Mamaroneck High School, and has recently moved to 563 Colonial Ave., Pelham Manor, N. Y. During the coming summer he will lead his third annual Nomad's trip on a two-months tour of the United States and Alaska. The twelve or fifteen boys, of high school age, who will make up the party, drive across the country in three new Fords, visiting all of the principal points of interest in the Rocky Mountains and especially the National Parks. After viewing the Golden Gate Exposition, the group transfers to a boat at Seattle and takes the inside trip to Alaska, where the principal points of interest are visited. On the return trip the boys visit the Canadian Rockies, and stops are made at Jasper and Glacier National Parks. Will has recently issued an attractive pamphlet containing the itinerary and photographs of the trip, copies of which are available.
