THROUGH the activities of the Friends of the Dartmouth Library, Dartmouth has acquired the manuscript of Munro Leaf's Ferdinand. Mr. Leaf made his presentation to the College through Ranald P. Hobbs '30 of New York City.
Also given to the College on semi permanent loan were the pencil sketches for Ferdinand by Robert Lawson, the manuscript of Mr. Leaf's Wee Gillis, and the original drawings of Mr. Leaf's Watch Bird. Another recent gift to Baker Library, through the Friends of the Dartmouth Library, was a collection of 26 volumes by Edward Garnett from the personal library of Prof. Herbert F. West '22. Also included in the gift was a volume of 30 original letters from Garnett to Professor West. The collection contains many rare first editions and an unusually large number of presentation copies. Professor West, one of the founders and active members of the Friends of the Dartmouth Library, some time ago gave the College a valuable collection of works by R. B. Cunninghame Graham.
