Al Briggs, one of our "Nine Old Men" who attended the 55th Anniversary Reunion, had the misfortune, on June 19th, to be stricken with a perforated ulcer of the stomach at his home in Chelsea, Mass. and was rushed to the hospital where he underwent a successful operation; his recovery was so rapid that he was discharged in a few days and after a short convalescence at the home of his son Paul (Dartmouth '11) in Winchester, Mass. he returned to his own home; since the first of August he has been able to resume his duties as Librarian in the Chelsea Public Library. His classmates extend to him their cordial congratulations.

Charlie Floyd, our new class president, and his wife have spent a pleasant summer at a camp on Shadow Lake at North Salem, N. H. and in taking automobile trips with friends to various parts of New England; during August he had some enjoyable yachting trips out of Marblehead, Mass.

John Brooks and his wife, as usual, spent their vacation at their summer home in Eliot, Maine. He has attended some engineering conferences at New Hampshire University in Durham and speaks enthusiastically of that Institution. They had the pleasure of having their daughter Elizabeth, who holds a fine position as a teacher, with them for her vacation.

Frank Whipple, upon retiring from the presidency of our class last June, felt the need of some active interest and, therefore, announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination to the Massachusetts Legislature from the lath Essex District, which comprises two wards in Lynn and the Town of Nahant. He served as a member of the Legislature from his district several years ago, rendering excellent service on his committees of Education and Public Health: he has the best wishes of his classmates to win both the nomination and the election.

Charlie Chase, our newly elected class vice president, and his wife took a brief automobile trip down the Maine coast early in the summer; his daughter Alice had a fine automobile trip to California with three of her college friends; his son Eugene (Dartmouth '16) and his family spent their summer on his farm in Hebron, Conn.

Henry Austin, our repeatedly elected class treasurer, and Mrs. Austin made a good recovery during the summer at their home in Webster, N. H. from their strenuous efforts in connection with our reunion; he is very proud of his 100% attendance record at reunions and well he

may be. Otis Hovey and his wife have spent a pleasant season at their summer home at Hartford, Vt. where they have with them their daughter Ellen, her husband and their children.

Lorrain Weeks writes very feelingly of the enjoyment he and his son William had at our reunion, which happily reflects the sentiment of all who attended.

The Secretary and Mrs. Bayley have had their daughter Marian and her family at their summer home in Beverly, Mass.

during the vacation season.

The classmates above mentioned are the "Nine Old Men" of '85 with Otis Hovey as "Chief Justice"—all shown in the accompanying photograph.
