Henry Austin writes that he recently attended the General Council of Congregational Christian Churches at Durham, N. H., June 18 to 25, as a delegate from his home church. It may be recalled that this was the somewhat celebrated convention at which the delegates voted 409 to 135 against the prosecution and settlement of the present war on the "pacifist" basis of brotherly love and Christian humility.

Henry has the distinction of having attended seven of these national Congregational meetings. He reports that his grandson, Robert, is at present in training at Fort Sheridan near Chicago but naturally has no knowledge of where his service will next call him. He also reports having a pleasant call recently from our former classmate, Frank Colby of Bow, N. H.

A 1 Briggs is busy and enjoys his duties as librarian of the Chelsea Public Library and spends much of his free time in reading and in his household affairs.

Lorrain Weeks wrote in too generous appreciation of the Secretary's humble efforts and also forcefully denounced this World War precipitated by the dictators of Europe and Asia. He expressed his pleasure in renewing, through the columns of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, his acquaintance with his old friend, Ned Dearborn of the class of '91, who has done such excellent work in the United States biological surveys.

The Secretary and Mrs. Bayley are pleased to report that on June 15th we reached the Golden Anniversary of our wedding but on account of Mrs. Bayley's health, we did not think best to attempt any formal celebration and spent the day quietly at our summer home in Beverly, Mass., where we received many kind letters and messages of congratulations and good wishes. We now have with us at our home our daughter, Mrs. Edwin P. Buchanan, and her husband, our two granddaughters, Lucia and Ellen, and our younger grandson, Eustace, making our immediate family circle complete except for our older grandson, Edwin, who is pursuing his summer pre-medical course at Princeton College.

These anniversary events deeply impress us of our increasing years—so years since we were married, 51 years since my admission to the Bar, 57 years since my graduation from college and in July I reached my 80th birthday, Mrs. Bayley being my junior by less than six months. We are both exceedingly thankful that we are in as comfortable health as we are. I continue my regular work at my office and with your assistance and cooperation I am beginning my 37th year as your Secretary. As classmates from the vantage ground of our years that are passed, may we not join in the challenge, each to the other, "grow old along with me, the best is yet to be, the last of life for which the first was made."

As Secretary it was my sad duty to announce the sudden death of our beloved class president, Charles W. Floyd, which occurred on June 5th and whose obituary appears in the Necrology of this issue; his death reduces the number of our surviving graduates to twelve members.

GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY Edwin A. Bayley 'B5 and Lucia W. Bayley,June 15, 11)42.
