FALL ALWAYS USHERS IN a busy season for the Chicago alumni. The principal events, of course, are the football returns on Saturday afternoons, but in addition there will be special monthly luncheons in October and November with interesting speakers as guests of the association.
The first of these luncheons will be about the middle of October and the program will be devoted to football. Notices will be mailed the Chicago alumni in advance to announce the date and the program. The entertainment committee plans to have direct wire reports of the Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Cornell games and as soon as their arrangements are definitely made, the time and place will be announced.
The summer season was as eventful and successful as any the Chicago Association has had. The golf party this year was held July 26 at Bob O'Link in Highland Park, strictly a man's club, and it managed to draw 68 players, diners and lookers-on. Harold Foreman, Jr. '35 won the low gross, Hank Llewellyn '14 won the first low net and A. E. Larkin won the second low net. Most of the gang came for golf and stayed for dinner and there were quite a few nongolfers who came for the dinner only. Each year this party gets better, with a bigger attendance and more fun.
Louie Leverone's annual steak and beer picnic took place August 23 at Louie's beautiful farm near Half Day, Illinois. The attendance was something over 100, and included Bill Knight 'OB of Rockford, Tad Wieman of Princeton and Bill Hutchinson and two other All Star players who were waiting for the game with the Packers a few days later. This party is the highlight of the summer and gives everyone a chance to work off a lot of steam playing ball, pitching horseshoes, drinking beer and filling up on Louie's delicious barbecue steak and corn on the cob.
Every day a group gathers at Mandel Brothers Men's Grill at the Dartmouth luncheon table. This table will be continued during the fall season and those who are in Chicago and those who visit us are most welcome. In fact you are urged to make it a habit to meet there. TheDartmouth is delivered to the table and frequently someone will have a New York or Boston paper giving news of Dartmouth activities which the local papers do not carry. Call the secretary if you want further information.
