DESPITE THE COMPREHENSIVENESS of class and club organizations, Dartmouth men often find themselves desirous of getting in touch with other Dartmouth men for business and professional purposes, without having some convenient source of information as to specific Dartmouth business and professional men in a given vicinity. It seems to be a natural fact that Dartmouth men like to do business with other Dartmouth men; there is no question of commercializing one's sentiment or capitalizing the college association; it merely provides a mutual association and interest which makes it easier to talk and, pleasanter to meet, and identifies one man to another more satisfactorily than any set of credentials.

To facilitate such contacts by better than accidental means, the DARTMOUTH ALUMNI MAGAZINE proposes to inaugurate, commencing with the October, 1940 issue, a Business and Professional Directory of Dartmouth men. Physically, it will be an attractive and dignified page in which business and professional "cards" will be arranged by categories; it will not be a run-of-the-mill page of unrelated "box" advertisements; it will be designed so that the reader will be able to find the category of business or service in which he is interested without aimless combing of individual advertisements.

With this directory we feel that the MAGAZINE offers a new service to Dartmouth men of very definite value. If you find yourself in a strange community, or contemplate business development involving new services and industries, it will be a convenience to you to be able to find, in this monthly directory, the names, firms and addresses of accountants, lawyers, builders, advertisers, manufacturers, bankers and others whose interest in your problem will be enhanced by a mutual interest in Dartmouth. If your name and business activity are listed on this page, it will be read by 13,000 or more Dartmouth men whose business needs, combined with their interest in you as a Dartmouth man, will bring you together.

For the insertion of your name or firm name or both, under such classification as you direct, together with address and telephone number, a charge of $20 will be made for 10 consecutive issues (one publication year); for five insertions, $15, and for three insertions, $10.
