Just before the coveted Heisman Trophy winner was named this fall, Ivan N. Kaye wrote an historical piece for The New York Times on football greats who played the game before the Heisman was first awarded. His article in cluded a nifty reference to Dartmouth great Andrew (Swede) Oberlander '26 and the remarkable team he quarter- backed his senior year. In extolling Oberlander's superb passing ability (he threw six touchdown passes in the Cornell game alone), Kaye also described the '25 Big Green eleven as "a team two-deep in Phi Beta Kappas and also better at playing football than anybody else in 1925."
