Record Hanover Holiday
July 1940

More than 125 alumni and their families set a record for attendance at the fourth annual Hanover Holiday season, June 17-22, forcing relocation of the space for lectures and indicating increased popularity of this institution as an ideal means for a Dartmouth vacation. In addition to a series of stimulating lectures by faculty members, time and facilities were available for varied forms of recreation, including swimming parties, picnics, golf, bridge and dances. Holiday-goers stayed at the Hanover Inn, where hosts Ford and Peggy Sayre were on hand to help with running of social diversions, or in fraternity houses. Though vacationists were under no pressure to do anything but relax, a full program of "extra-curricular" events was managed by Professor Herbert W. Hill for those desiring a vent for excess energy. Attendance at the lectures was double that of last year.
