Meanwhile the other fall activities are running along smoothly. Over on the soccer field, Tommy Dent has another group of fine booters, and with a senior forward line of Hal Eckardt, Dick Deane, and Gordie Smith the Big Green should be in for a banner year. But Tommy warns that he must solidify his defense before any bold predictions can be made. Captain Jim Rendall and Brad Copeland as well as Guy Mallett are returning to bolster the defense, but there are still weak positions. Bill Orr, a sophomore from Deerfield Academy, has played plenty of soccer and is being counted on to fill one of the halfback spots. Dick Geppert, a transfer student from Cambridge in England, may prove to be the key to the defense problem if he comes through in good style. Two other sophomores who have shown ability to play topnotch soccer are Bill Saunders and Dave Pierson, one a defenseman, the other a for- ward. The goalie spot, vacated by All-New England goalie Red Munroe, will be handled by either sophomore Charlie Mottola or junior Martin Meigs.
Still another fall sport which has yet to really get under way is cross-country. Harry Hillman expects to have a strong squad with Bob Williams returning to school and Don Burnham up from the freshman squad. Hillman expects Burnham, who is a Lebanon boy, to be one of the outstanding distance runners in the East this year.
