Norman H. (Dutch) Holland '38, who fell in love with the theatre while an undergraduate and became a bright dramatic star in the Hanover firmament, is now taking a three year course at the Yale Dramatic School and played one of the leading roles in Sidney Howard's psychological drama, The Silver Cord, at the Yale Theatre in December.
Dutch is specializing in the technique of advanced acting and direction at Yale and this year is studying scene design under Donald Oenslager who did the sets for The ManWho Came to Dinner and several other Broadway plays. His teachers are a roster of outstanding theatrical personalities and include Otto Preminger, famous European and New York director, Elmer Rice, Pulitzer prize-winning playwright, and Theodore Komisarjevsky, former director of the Imperial Opera and Ballet, Moscow, and director-teacher of such stars as Charles Laughton, John Gielgud, and Elizabeth Bergner.
After graduation, Dutch plans to continue his theatrical work, either professional or amateur, as an actor and director.
