CONTINUING THE SERIES of faculty biographical sketches, an intimate story on ROYAL CASE NEMIAH, Professor of Greek Language and Literature, written by DONALD BARTLETT '24, is presented in this issue on page 9. Bartlett, one-time student under Nemiah and now Professor of Biography, is particularly wellequipped to subject Professor Nemiah to fair and candid exposure in print, knowing him long as both pupil and colleague. The title, Classicist Not Without Honor, expresses the high regard in which the man is held even by those whose educational theories place the Classics on the shelf.

PRESIDENT HOPKINS' appointment to Washington to help direct the industrial defense program is reviewed in News of the College, page 22, with more adequate coverage than it received in the daily press, particularly as regards its effects at Hanover.

The appointment and plans of DEORMOND ("Tuss") MCLAUGHRY as coach of football, replacing EARL BLAIK, are discussed by WHITEY FULLER in his sports column this month. For the whole story on Dartmouth's new gridiron head, turn to page 28.

Dartmouth's official historian, LEON BURR RICHARDSON '00, has turned out a biography of William E. Chandler, New Hampshire's early and great politician, which exhibits the usual scholarly care and readable style of its distinguished author. For a featured review by DR. CLAUDE FUESS, turn to Books by Dartmouth Men, page 12.

Other features: HERBERT W. HILL tells of the coming 5th annual Hanover Holiday, page 19; in Why Kill a Good Game, WILLIAM H.MCCARTER '19 has a good word to say for football, page 17: a story of the late MRS. ROOD'S eating club, page 14; a sketch of JOHN L. SULLIVAN '21, Washington's Top Tax Man, by CLYDEC. HALL '26, on page 20.
