The movies of our tenth reunion have been completed and are now in Hanover, ready for showings at class dinners, smokers and beer parties. Joe Golan has assembled and edited two fair sized reels, approximately six hundred feet, most of which is in color taken at the picnic and around the tent in Hanover. Joe added his own films to those of Earl Seldon and John French and this addition to our movie library will recall many fond memories to those who view the pictures in the future. When asking for the films for showings at Thirty gatherings, please give the secretary plenty of advance notice in order to be sure they will arrive in time for the party. Needless to say, grateful thanks have been extended to Eastman's Joe Golan on behalf of the Class for his patient, unselfish efforts and trouble in preserving for posterity this epochal milestone in the history of 1930.

There are a lot of announcements to include this month, but first let us record the names of those we know are "in the army now." While running down a false rumor that John Garrison had died, we learned from his mother that he had been drafted last January and was stationed at Fort Jay, Governor's Island, New York. He was the first draftee to come to our notice, since which there have been unconfirmed reports that Red Doherty and Charlie Mc-Donough have been called. In the meantime, Clark Denney volunteered for a year of service and left for points unknown late in February. This was an occasion for a little farewell party at New York's University Club, where Clark had been living. Bob Bottome, up once more from Venezuela, and the two Frenches were Thirty's well wishers at this affair. Where our soldier boys will spend the next twelve months (or more?) we don't know, but would welcome an occasional postcard from them and all other classmates who have been called for training. Lieutenant Hammy South, by the way, has been transferred to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, with wife, kids, dog, baggage and all.

Getting on with our announcements, a fancy engraved card reveals that Fred Schmidt has been admitted as a partner to the law firm of McDonald & Richmond in Chicago. This took place on February i, and on the same date Willard M. Brown, Jr. was appointed as resident manager of the Washington office of the Ocean Accident and Guarantee Corporation, Limited. Brownie added a note that he would miss the gang at the class dinners in New York but looked forward to seeing the boys in the Capitol.

Our faithful assistant secretary in Hanover, Miss Coburn, who could spot the name of a Thirtyman in the fine print on the back of a bill of lading, picked out the announcements of four engagements in various newspapers. First was that of Ruth Levi, daughter of Mrs. David B. Levi of Buffalo, to Raymond Bernhardt. Miss Levi was graduated from Bryn Mawr, the clipping relates, but no date was set for the wedding.. . . Dr. and Mrs. David W. Parker of Manchester, N. H., have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Mary Woodbury Parker, to Dr. Robert R. Rix, who is now practicing orthopedic surgery in that city. Miss Parker, whose father is an alumnus of Dartmouth, is a graduate of Bennington College.

The editor of Where, Oh Where is next to leave the dwindling list of bachelors. Mr. and Mrs. Howard P. Gleason of Worcester announce the engagement of Miss Avis Lucile Gleason to Henry Sebastian Odbert. Hank has certainly made good use of his sabbatical and this gives the answer to what professors do when they get a year, or six months away from cloistered Hanover. Miss Gleason is a Wheaton College graduate and, in case it has not been previously reported in these columns, Hank received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy from Harvard in 1934.

Fourth on our list this month is the engagement of Miss Patricia Pierce of Brookline, Mass., to Bill Fletcher. This news was also received from Frank Ryder, who added that Pat was graduated from Smith College and that a June wedding is planned. Frank tells us that Si and Margo Chandler will move into their recently purchased home in Needham on the first of April and that thereafter it will be Squire Chandler of that town.

Pete Callaway, ebullient as ever, was in town early in March for a sales meeting of the advertising department of Time. He revealed the surprising and welcome news that Jim Irwin was married last fall out in San Francisco to a girl from New Orleans, Jim's former base. It is mighty good news to know that Jim is well enough now to step into matrimony, and now that he has gone and done it, we couldn't possibly be surprised if the only two remaining bachelors in Jim's delegation fall sooner or later.

One more engagement completes our quota this month, but with spring just around the corner there ought to be more for the next issue. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Raywood of New Rochelle, and the Ambassador Hotel, New York, announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Agnes Hope Raywood, to Mr. Arthur Lewis Hayes. Miss Raywood was graduated from the Bennett School and Junior College at Millbrook, N. Y., and attended the Chateau de Groslay, Paris, and the New York School of Applied Design for Women. She has been associated with Conde Nast Publications. Art is with the New York Telephone Company and was one of the company's representatives at their exhibit at the New York World's Fair last summer. The wedding will take place in May.

Charlie Widmayer sent us a card with a suggestion to look closely at page 93 of the Ladies Home Journal for March. We don't know why or how Charlie happens to peruse this magazine so thoroughly, but it aroused sufficient curiosity and after finally locating a copy we beheld a picture of Vic Borella, in full color too, interviewing an applicant for a job in Rockefeller Center, where Vic is director of personnel.

A nice letter from Shorty Long tells of his activities with the Jam Handy Organization, particularly his personal crusade for good mechanics for the automobile industry and the U. S. A. He has been extremely busy trying to supply mechanics and airplane pilots, a line into which his company is getting quite active and which will take the form of a nation-wide training program by General Motors during the year.

Ote Humphrey writes from 18 South Hopmeadow Street, in Simsbury, Conn., that he has started in on a new job there in the jute mill of the Ensign-Bickford Company. That address, apparently, is one of the company houses as Ote said he had just moved into one.

Before running out of space we owe it to the fathers and mothers to include the latest blessed events. Nels Blake proudly proclaimed the arrival of his first youngster, James Herbert, but neglected to give his birth date. Nels has been teaching at Syracuse University, in the history department, since 1936.

The Harold Kaplans announce the birth of Elaine Beth November 8, 1940. "This is just the beginning," says Kayo.

A card from Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Linwood Savage, Jr., bears the name of Neil Blandford Savage with the date February 14, 1941. According to the records this is also the first addition in the Savage home. .... The aforesaid Callaway confirmed the reports of offspring at the Emrichs and Schmidts, but these fathers seem to be particularly reticent about disclosing the details.

The temptation to put in a plug for the Alumni Fund here will not down. No one is more anxious to see the Class of 1930 break its previous records than your former class agent and this is said with all sincerity. Knowing that it can be done, we hope you will make this the year to attain 100% of contributors for the first time, and Alex McFarland will appreciate your cooperation by getting your gifts in early.

Fund Contributors for 1940 Contributors: 413 (93% of graduates). Total gifts: $3,665.00 (132% of objective). G. WARREN FRENCH, Class Agent.
