Ouch! My first Alumni Magazine column, and I'm getting it in late. Readers of this column have become spoiled over the last decade, and I can assure everyone that despite rooming with Alex Varkas for two years, I've found that none of his wit rubbed off. Alex wrote this column for ten years and became famous not only to members of our class but to members of many other classes who would turn to our class column even before turning to their own. Thanks, Alex, for some great reading.
By the time you read this, it will be almost three months since reunion and three years, nine months, and counting until our 25th. Hats off to Herb McCord,Jay Regan, and the reunion committee for putting together a weekend that certainly lived up -to its advance billing. Lest my own better half lower the boom, hats off also to the reunion committee wives who manned the check-in tables and made sure that everyone received his/her name badges, room assignments, visors, etc.
The 357 '64s, wives, girlfriends, and children who made it back to Hanover were treated to perfect picnic weather at Storrs Pond followed by a sellout Saturday-night concert featuring the Dovels, Marvelettes, the Cadillacs, and the Tokens. These groups were arranged by JayRegan, who also had the winning bid for a Herb West vintage watercolor auctioned off at the class banquet.
A new slate of class officers was elected at the class business meeting. They are: president, Herb McCord; treasurer, EdGingras; head agent, Sandy McGinnis; secretary, Bob Cahners; newsletter editor, George Fesus; and Alumni Council representative, Carl DuBei.
The Union Dam and Thetford picnic areas were rededicated, with a short benediction said over the spot where ClintRoenisch rolled his Corvair 21 years ago. The award for traveling the farthest to reunion goes to Brad Evans, who flew in from London for 24 hours and then returned to keep Morgan Stanley's U.K. affairs in order. Fran Hanlon and fiance Jo Fogg announced a September marriage date during the weekend. Perry Butler has just opened a new Perry's Restaurant in Mill Valley, Calif. Additionally, the Butlers are expecting a new member of their family to be born in November. Louand Judy Eisenberg had to leave early to return home, where their daughter was receiving recognition for her lifesaving effort in a boating accident.
