FOR THE FIRST TIME since the Dartmouth Plaque was instituted, the freshman scholastic award has been made this year to the Hanover High School. The Plaque is awarded each year to the secondary school whose delegation of three or more men in the first-year class makes the best scholastic record during the first semester.

The winning delegation of four men achieved the combined average of 3.15. Among the group were two sons of Dartmouth professors, John P. Brown, son of Prof. Bancroft H. Brown, and Richard Morse, son of Prof. Stearns Morse. The other members were Gregory L. Rabassa and Clinton B. Williams, also of Hanover.

Second honors went to the Horace Mann School for Boys, New York, whose four representatives had a combined average of 3.10; and third place went to Montclair High School, Montclair, N. J., whose three representatives achieved 2.93. Other ranking delegations in order were: Boston Public Latin School, five men, 2.84; Newton (Mass.) High School, six men, 2.70; University School, Cleveland, six men, 2-53; White Plains (N. Y.) Senior High School, three men, 2.53; East Denver (Colo.) High School, six men, 2.50; and Shattuck School, Faribault, Minn., four men, 2.50.

The Dartmouth Plaque last year went to the Melrose (Mass.) High School, whose five representatives had an average of 2.84. The Plaque, engraved with the names of the winning delegates, is sent each year to the winning school to be hung permanently at the school.
