SUMMARY OF CHANGES IN COUNCIL MEMBERSHIP
May 1941

A SUMMARY of proposed revisions in Alumni Council districting and membership, as carried in full on this page, follows:

1. Number of active members of the Council increased by four, from 31 to 35 by: (a) Addition of three new members from the new southwestern district. (b) Addition of one new member by replacing the present three memberships from the Secretaries Association with two from the Association, one from class agents, and one from class treasurers.

2. Re-allocation of several western and southwestern states within the seven Council districts of the country, to meet changes in distribution of Dartmouth alumni population and in line with existing relationships in business and other ways between groups of states. These changes in Council districts and creation of the new southwestern district will result in having three representatives on the Council from the Pacific coast instead of the present two, and will among other changes place St. Louis, Kansas City, and Denver in the new southwestern district along with Tulsa, Dallas, Houston, and other alumni centers.

3. Membership turnover on the Council will be increased by limiting the maximum years of service of members-at large to one consecutive term of three years instead of two terms totaling six years; and by limiting members chosen in district elections to a total of two consecutive terms of two years each instead of the present maximum of two terms of three years each.

4. Representation on the Council will be given for the first time to the class agents and class treasurers; and equal representation of one place each on the Council will be given to the class secretaries and alumni club and association secretaries.
