THE EIGHTH ANNUAL Craftsman's Fair of the League of New Hampshire Arts and Crafts will be held this year at Dartmouth College from August 11 through 16. Davis Hockey Rink will be the scene of handicraft displays and of demonstrations of skill by trained craftsmen from all over New Hampshire.

The Dartmouth Players, under the direction of Warner Bentley, will present The Male Animal in Webster Hall throughout the week of the Fair. Members of the New Hampshire Art Association will display their work on the walls of the hockey rink, and special exhibitions will be arranged in Hanover by the Carpenter Art Galleries, Baker Library, the Dartmouth Museum, and Howe Library. Another special attraction of the program surrounding the Fair will be the open house at Webster Cottage, home of Alice Van Leer Carrick, on the afternoons of August 12 through 15. Proceeds from the Players' show will go to British war relief.

The Craftsman's Fair each year brings together artisans from all over the state, giving visitors the opportunity to see workers actually plying their native crafts and to acquire the handmade articles which are marketed at that time. The skilled workers include potters, jewellers, gem cutters, metal workers, weavers, basket makers, wood carvers, rug makers, and artists in almost every branch of needlework.

The League of New Hampshire Arts and Crafts now has a membership of more than 1500 craftsmen and has some twenty craft shops in operation throughout the state. The craftsmen are trained and supervised by the League, under the direction of David R. Campbell of Concord, and their work must pass the examination of the League Jury, insuring a high quality of skill and artistry.
