ON JUNE 26, with four days of the campaign remaining, the 1941 Alumni Fund honoring President Hopkins' 25th anniversary had already created Fund history with a grand total of .$152,884. This figure is $23,098 higher than the previous all-time mark of $129,786 set in the boom year of 1929, and since approximately $20,000 was received in the last five days of the 1940 campaign, the final 1941 figure is expected to set a real high-water mark and to provide a striking tribute to President Hopkins upon the completion of his quarter-century as Dartmouth's leader.
The June 26 total of $152,884 was made up of gifts and pledges of $137,408 from alumni and gifts of $15,476 from 189 friends and parents. The alumni total was 29% ahead of the total on the same date last year, but the number of contributors was still slightly behind the record-breaking 81% of graduates set last year. The 1941 Fund actually has 700 more gifts than on June 26 last year, but it is estimated that 900 gifts are additional contributions from alumni who gave to the Fund earlier in the campaign.
