PLANS FOR THE FIRST Hanover Winter Holiday have not been altered by the telescoping of the college year, it has been announced by Prof. Herbert W. Hill, and the week's program will go through as scheduled for January 10 to 18. The wheels of the College will, in fact, be turning more busily and seriously than ever, and the purpose of giving alumni, parents and others the chance to see Dartmouth at work will be better realized.
On the strength of a number of alumni already signed up and the cooperation offered by faculty members, the first winter session of the popular Hanover Holiday is assured a successful start. A large number of classes will be open to visitors during the period of January 10-18, and special interest will probably attach to the emergency courses being given in democratic thought, war strategy, power politics, electronics, map interpretation, mathematics, and psychology. The Thayer School has also extended a welcome to all who wish to sit in on its emergency courses. A complete list of the College classes which have room for visitors will be prepared in advance for those attending the Hanover Winter Holiday.
In addition to class lectures, two public lectures by Dr. John M. Mecklin, retired sociology professor, and by Holger Cahill, director of the Federal Arts Project, are scheduled during the Hanover Winter Holiday period. Also scheduled during an unusually busy week are a concert, a Players' show, two varsity hockey games, two varsity basketball games, several freshman contests, and special practice sessions which the coaches have agreed to stage. There will be a reception, attended by President Hopkins, on the 16 th and a dance at the Inn on the following evening. Other events are a feed at Ross McKenney's cabin, a special Glee Club rehearsal, and the regular activities of the student workshops in art, printing, natural science and handicrafts.
In cooperation with the Hanover Holiday committee, the Hanover Inn is offering a special daily rate, on the basis of a minimum stay of three days, of $1.20 per person for a bunkroom, $1.80 for a double room, 12.40 for a double room with bath, $2.00 for a single room, and $3.00 for a single room with bath. Rooms are also available at the Green Lantern in Hanover and at the Norwich Inn. Special meals at the Inn will be 12.25 a day. Full information about Hanover Winter Holiday can be obtained by writing to Prof. Herbert W. Hill, director of the alumni program.
