DARTMOUTH'S HOPES for Ivy League leadership evaporated in the Yale Bowl on October 24, when the aroused, victorystarved Elis pushed the Indians all over the gridiron for 57 of the 60 minutes and emerged with a well-earned 17-7 upset. For three minutes in the third quarter the Big Green came to life and marched 80 yards to score on the smashes of Ray Wolfe and Tom Douglas, but for the remainder of the contest the Blues dominated the play.

Dartmouth entered the contest primed to stop a barrage of Yale passes and was surprised by the potency of the Bulldog running attack, paced by Freshman Stan Weiner and Bob Picket. The former ran 31 yards for the first Yale touchdown, after Fred Dent had kicked a third-period field goal, and Picket scored the second touchdown from the 4-yard line following interception of Wolfe's pass and completion of a Hoopes-to-Taylor forward.

The real story of the Yale victory was told in the disparity of the two lines. Dartmouth's undermanned forward wall fi- nally showed signs of physical wear and was outplayed by a wide margin. The Green backs, while driving for all they were worth, could not make much of a dent in Yale's virtual nine-man line
