Instructors, Inspectors Needed
December 1942

THE PERSONNEL BUREAU has recently received notice that the United States Civil Service Commission is seeking qualified persons to serve as Student and Junior Instructors for the Army Air Force Technical Schools and Navy Aviation Service Schools, and as inspectors for the U. S. Maritime Commission. There is a minimum age requirement of 20 years for an instructor's position, but there is no maximum age limit in either case.

Student instructors will be given training in radio operating, engineering, airplane mechanics, or shop work for a period of from three to six months. At the end of that time, successful applicants will be promoted to junior instructors and assigned to an appropriate school. Qualifications include one year's study in a college, or training or experience in one of several technical occupations. No written test is required. Student instructors receive $1620 a year; junior instructors, $2000 a year.

Inspectors are needed in the expanded ship-building program in actual construction of cargo and war-purpose ships and in the production of materials for them. Applicants must have had appropriate experience in the inspection or production of paints, textiles, mechanical, or electrical equipment, and it is desirable that they be able to make written reports clearly and intelligently. Positions pay $2600 a year entrance salary.

Persons who are subject to an early draft call or war workers, particularly those listed in Form 3989 (for critical occupations in specified areas), are asked not to apply. Further information and application forms can be obtained from the nearest Civil Service headquarters or from any first- or second-class post office.
