If all goes well—or badly, according to your political faith—the next communique from your Secretary may originate in Washington, D. C. After four years of practically dolce far niente, we have been hauled from our nice, cosy cocoon and tossed into the Maelstrom. We have been nominated by the Democratic Party as their candidate for Congress in the Fifth District of Connecticut. Luckily our opponent is also a Dartmouth man—which insures a nice friendly campaign. But, as Principal Whitfield, Frost Kimball of Manchester, Mass. High School used to say, "Every man for their self."
We wish to acknowledge with thanks the receipt of Christmas cards from the following: Ted and Laura Allen, NormErlandson, Helen and Bob Guggenheim,Dorothy and Bob Hagan, Ruth, Mel, Billyand Bobby Katz, Hal and Dot Mackey,The Okies, Polly and Henry Pierpont, TedPurcell, S. J., Fuller, Betty and Judy Ripley, Mary and Page Worthington.
We call attention to the fact that there is a Dorothy linked to the Bob Hagan a situation formerly founded only in rumor, but now thus shyly admitted. Also we note the following on the Okie card: "Louise,Louisa, (?) Ted and Ted Jr. (born Dec. 16 and plan to enter him in Hanover any day now)."
The Allen card bears the following message: "Ted is still at the Sullivan Machine Company and has been very busy with his music. He has been playing with the Yacht Club Orchestra for about two years. We are both well and enjoy living outside of the 'big' town in the country atmosphere."
We have the following announcement: "Clarence H. Albaugh, M. D. takes pleasure in announcing to you the opening of his office at Suite 1130 and 1131 Roosevelt Building, Los Angeles, California. Practice limited to Ophthalmology."
The Iron Age reports that Jim De Haven has been named to the technical staff at Battelle Memorial Institute, Columbus, O. where he has been assigned to the division of foundry research. He is a graduate of Carnegie Tech as well as Dartmouth and was, for six years, associated with the American Radiator and Standard Sanitary Corp. at Pittsburgh.
In* the Ravenna, O. Record we find the following amplification of the previous report of the Bernache-Dick nuptials. "Mrs. Bernache attended Hiram College and Kent State University and for the past two years has been studying voice in New York City. Mr. Bernache is a member of the Glee Club in the Fred Waring ensemble. The couple will live in New York City."
Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Edward Sexton of Winchester, Massachusetts have announced the engagement of their daughter Marian Jane to Mr. James Franklin Woods. The wedding will take place on January 17 th.
Jack Smart called on the phone the other day and told of the fine hospitality he had enjoyed at the hands of Lieut. JimDoherty at Camp Lee, Va. He also spoke of having had lunch in New York with George Edwards. And while we are on the subject of Edwards, it should be mentioned that we saw him at the Princeton game because he specifically ordered us to do so.
A local radio advertising man told us the other day that he was going to New York soon to talk to a big shot in radio advertising and that he was a little excited about the prospect. The big shot turned out to be Haig Bayliss.
